An Old Toothbrush and a Pinch of Baking Soda

Don’t toss your old toothbrush!

It’s been over a year since I switched to a biodegradable bamboo toothbrush. But like every toothbrush, it reaches the end of its life as well. Before tossing it into the compost (after removing the bristles), why not think of a new use for it?

Using them as a scrub brush (especially in areas a normal brush won’t reach) is a wonderful way to repurpose it. I use baking soda as a scouring ingredient for kitchen/ bathroom tiles and my old toothbrush as the scrub brush. We always have baking soda at home so it’s an efficient way to use our resources while eliminating the need for toxic household chemicals (I had earlier shared the recipe of an easy all -purpose cleaner that we can make at home with orange peels and vinegar. Check it out if you haven’t already).

Three points to remember:

  • REFUSE plastic and choose a biodegradable option
  • REPURPOSE before you toss items into the bin
  • REDUCE some of your waste by using what you already have.

Let’s try and simplify our lives together and rethink our consumption culture 🌠
